New content and new features
Hi everyone; it’s good to be back!
Linda and I finished the Camino de Santiago de Compostela last week before spending a day in Porto then flying out to Sofia, Bulgaria. It’s really nice here…and catching up with the backlog of emails and getting back into the show is really satisfying.
Personal News
The Camino was wonderful: if you don’t know what I’m talking about get back into iTunes and check out the last couple of episodes. In #53 we talk about where we’ve been and what we’re going to be doing — Bulgaria, Turkey, Champagne!
If you’re in Galipoli for ANZAC day make sure you shoot us an email so we can catch up for a beer.
Site News
Now that we’re back online again there’s a whole slew of new things happening. You might not notice them on the site for a month or so, but you get the inside running.
Firstly, fresh original articles are on the way. We’ve been gathering a few of our favourite travel bloggers to start regular columns on the Indie Travel Podcast. We’ll have world travellers and local experts telling their stories and sharing their tips. Interested in joining them? We need a commitment for at least one article a month: send Linda an email with a sample article and your ideas.
Secondly, we’re hoping to have more audio from you. Share your stories and one liners with the rest of us, why don’t you?! We also have a new microphone which gives us the freedom to interview so there will be more snapshots from the cool places we’re visiting…meet some locals and other travellers — or send an mp3 with your own stories to us and we’ll put them on the air.
Thirdly, we’re planning on enhancing ourselves: an iTunes enhanced podcast should be in production by the end of June. This will allow you to see photos of the people we’re talking to and the places we’re discussing plus linking into any websites and resources we’re talking about.
The only problem is we need another US$25 of donations to make it happen: we’re unemployed until … at least the middle of June … so if you’d like an enhanced Indie Travel Podcast come to the site and chip in for the software using paypal or your credit card — use the button in the sidebar.
Fourthly…I have to be honest — there is still more in the works, but that’s enough for now.
Photo of the month:
I’m being cheeky and using one of our photos this month: a view of the fields from a windy peak in northern Spain.

Do you hide your guidebook?
How do you feel about carrying your guidebook? Listener Greg likens it to the Lonely Bible in this post on Vagabonding Begins. He says that guidebooks have “their place and function” which sounds remarkably similar to our perspective. Weigh in with your thoughts by replying or in Greg’s comment form.

Tomorrow night we’re catching an overnight train from Sofia to Istanbul and apparently customs and immigration is a 1:30am nightmare. Istanbul is one sexy city though — it’ll be well worth it. Remember you can always get in touch by hitting reply, email mail@indietravelpodcast.com or using the contact form on-site.
Until next week, travel well!
Craig and Linda
